Inauguration of ACFA Zorokoro Children’s Complex Community Library and Computer Lab

May 2024 marked a historic day for ACFA as we celebrated the inauguration of the Zorokoro Children’s Complex Community Library and Computer Lab. This long-awaited milestone, achieved after years of dedicated planning and fundraising, stands as a testament to our commitment to empowering our community.

The construction of the library and computer lab was made possible by the generous support of B2Gold, a Canadian mining company. Inside, an array of resources—including books in three languages, maps, musical instruments, furniture, computers, and printers—were funded by a grant from USAID ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad).

The inauguration ceremony drew over 100 guests, including representatives from the US Embassy, USAID, B2Gold, Fondation Orange, and local Malian administrative, political, and educational authorities. Keynote speeches were delivered by Ibrahim Toure, External Relations Manager for B2Gold, and Kadiatou Sidibe, ACFA’s CEO and Founder. Additional remarks came from Board Chair Lisa Savitt, the Mayor of Safo, and the village chief of Zorokoro.

Attendees of all ages were captivated by a surprise magician, courtesy of B2Gold. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests explored the new library and computer lab, as well as the broader Zorokoro Children’s Complex, which includes a school, dormitory, and vegetable garden.

We are excited about the transformative impact this library and computer lab will have on ACFA students and the wider community. Future plans include diverse programs such as music, dance, art, storytelling, literacy classes, and computer programming training. We look forward to the countless memories and opportunities that will emerge from the library and computer lab.
